Aminata shared some images from our inaugural Bluff & Swagger African Fashion Lunch at SCEGGS in 2018, our first AMF Mother's Day Walk in 2019, and second Bluff & Swagger Lunch at Athol Hall in 2019. She highlighted the immediate need faced by mothers and babies in the communities that our Foundation supports.
According to UNICEF "With 1,360 mothers dying per 100,000 live births, Sierra Leone has the worst maternal mortality ratio in the world. According to the latest estimates from 2015, 1 in 17 mothers in Sierra Leone has a lifetime risk of death associated to childbirth."¹
We, as a Foundation, were delighted for this opportunity spread the knowledge of our work for the mothers and babies of the Aberdeen Women's Centre in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Despite the difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 crisis & the delays it had caused on our fundraising efforts, we as a community were able to continually raise money for the women and health-care workers who have been directly affected by this crisis in Sierra Leone.

INSTAGRAM TAKEOVER by @aminata_conteh_biger – Today I was going to announce on my page the release date of my memoir, Rising Heart, but instead I will do it here! When the opportunity came for me to tell my story, I was both frightened and relieved because I realised that by putting it into a book, I would no longer be in a position to have to relive it. But it also meant that my story could bring hope and courage to anyone else who might need it. As a little girl growing up in #SierraLeone, I had a priveliged life full of priceless memories with my father. But that all changed when I was kidnapped from his hands and life took its toll but I soon realised that I had a choice – to choose hate, or live a life of fullness. Rising Heart, with @julietrieden, is published by @macmillaustralia from August 25th and will be available as an audio book. #risingheartbook

INSTAGRAM TAKEOVER by @aminata_conteh_biger – My home country of Sierra Leone is the most dangerous place in the world to have a baby. Women there are 200 times more likely to die giving birth. My vision is simple – that every woman in Sierra Leone has as much chance for her and her baby to survive as any woman in a developed country. Yes, there is a problem, but there is also a SOLUTION and the @aminatafoundation presents this solution to Australians to help. I would love to invite you to join us to bring change. In these photos you can see some of the mothers and babies we have helped and some photos from our fundraisers. #aminatafoundation #SierraLeone

“[T]he one thing I carry with me all the time is kindness. I believe when you “have”, you have a responsibility. It doesn’t matter what it is you have, even if it’s only time, it is important to share it with others who need it. So this idea of “serving”, or being a server, … […]Read More
