Morlai Kamara has over ten years experience in development and in advancing the human rights of vulnerable communities in Australia and Sierra Leone.
Morlai was Project Officer for the Australian Human Rights Commission where he worked with a diverse range of government and non-government stakeholders to identify human rights challenges faced by new and emerging communities, and strategies to address them. He was also part of the team that developed Australia’s national anti-racism strategy. He continued his work with disadvantaged communities in Australia at Settlement Services International, where, as Team Leader, he led a team of case managers that provided case management support to asylum seekers and refugee communities in NSW.
Prior to emigration to Australia, Morlai was Programme Manager for a number of Sierra Leonean and international non-governmental organisations including British charity Voluntary Service Overseas where he led the design and implementation of the Secure Livelihoods programme.
