AMF Walking Challenge 2023: A walk to remember for safe births

The Sydney Opera House steps echoed with purpose as the Aminata Maternal Foundation (AMF) Walking Challenge 2023 took centre stage on Saturday, November 11. More than 50 adults, children and pets joined the event demonstrating their solidarity and commitment for safer childbirths in Sierra Leone.

Thank you for walking with us!

We are deeply thankful to all our supporters who made the AMF Walking Challenge 2023 a huge success, raising an incredible $40,000 and counting! This remarkable sum will enable us to train and pay the salaries of 10 midwives for a year, making a direct impact on the lives of countless mothers and babies in Sierra Leone.

While the walk has concluded, our mission continues. We’re striving to reach our goal of $65,000,  enabling us to fund 17 midwives for one year.

Midwives are the backbone of the maternal health system, and Sierra Leone currently has less than 500 midwives. This critical shortage of midwives follows more than 11 years of Civil War, Ebola, and Covid-19. Together these events led to the loss of 15% of Sierra Leone’s medical workforce, and today they need more than 3,700 additional midwives to serve their population.

Please consider extending your fundraising endeavours or contributing making a donation. Each contribution brings us one step closer to creating a lasting impact on maternal health in Sierra Leone.
