Aminata shared some images from our inaugural Bluff & Swagger African Fashion Lunch at SCEGGS in 2018, our first AMF Mother’s Day Walk in 2019, and our second Bluff & Swagger Lunch at Athol Hall in 2019. She highlighted the immediate need faced by mothers and babies in the communities that our Foundation supports.
According to UNICEF “With 1,360 mothers dying per 100,000 live births, Sierra Leone has the worst maternal mortality ratio in the world. According to the latest estimates from 2015, 1 in 17 mothers in Sierra Leone has a lifetime risk of death associated to childbirth.”¹
We, as a Foundation, were delighted for this opportunity spread the knowledge of our work for the mothers and babies of the Aberdeen Women’s Centre in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Despite the difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 crisis & the delays it had caused on our fundraising efforts, we as a community were able to continually raise money for the women and health-care workers who have been directly affected by this crisis in Sierra Leone.
