Aminata Conteh-Biger and her two beautiful children, Sarafina & Matisse celebrated Mother’s Day 2021 with  Sheridan, one of the biggest luxury homewares, beddings & room décor store in Australia.

In the interview, Aminata shared that her difficult experience giving birth to her daughter was the catalyst for creating the Aminata Maternal Foundation.

She detailed how near-death experience during the birth of her daughter Serafina in 2012, opened her eyes to the difficult reality that mothers in Sierra Leone face when giving birth, with 1 in 18 not surviving.  and that she wanted to do all she could to change this.

She shared how she started the foundation, the struggles, and successes as well as the release of her book “Rising Heart“. Above all, she shared her joys of being a mother as well as how she encourages and raises her children in confidence, grace, and honour.

Ending Teenage Pregnancy Is Not a Programme, It Is National Infrastructure

On 29 April 2026, thirty young mothers graduated from the Dream Girls (Rising Girls) programme at Aberdeen Women’s Centre in Sierra Leone. Delivered in partnership with the Aminata Maternal Foundation, the programme supports girls from the ages of 11 – 17, affected by early pregnancy to return to education and build pathways to future livelihoods. The girls graduated from the Skills Training Centre after 6 months of hands-on vocational training in hospitality, tailoring, hairdressing, crafts, and literacy.
