Aminata Conteh-Biger, Founder & CEO of Aminata Maternal Foundation sat in an interview with Georgie Abay of The Grace Tales to answer questions related to this year’s International Women’s Day theme #ChooseToChallenge.

Aminata is the perfect embodiment of how challenges bring change. Aminata shared how the challenges she faced brought change to her life and led her to her life’s calling.

In this interview, Aminata talked about her life in Sierra Leone, the struggles she faced and endured when she was kidnapped, what “International Women’s Day” means to her and how she became an inspiration to women and everyone she cross paths with.

She also shared how her near-death experience in 2012 inspired her to embark on a mission to help mothers and babies in Sierra Leone.

Ending Teenage Pregnancy Is Not a Programme, It Is National Infrastructure

On 29 April 2026, thirty young mothers graduated from the Dream Girls (Rising Girls) programme at Aberdeen Women’s Centre in Sierra Leone. Delivered in partnership with the Aminata Maternal Foundation, the programme supports girls from the ages of 11 – 17, affected by early pregnancy to return to education and build pathways to future livelihoods. The girls graduated from the Skills Training Centre after 6 months of hands-on vocational training in hospitality, tailoring, hairdressing, crafts, and literacy.

Sierra Leone is entering a defining moment in maternal health reform. Through its “300 Days of Activism” campaign, the government is mobilising ministries, health teams, clinicians, and partners around the Triple Zeros: zero preventable maternal deaths, zero preventable child deaths, and zero zero-dose children.
