We are only $20,000 short of our target for this Tax Appeal campaign – any gift you can make today, small or large, will mean we can continue to safely support women and babies in Sierra Leone.
We received an email from one of our nurses at the Aberdeen Women’s Centre, Isha Kamara in Sierra Leone. She is concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on the health and safety of the young women she is providing care for in the hospital.
I have received more news about the challenges and strain that COVID-19 is placing on local resources. The team are doing all they can to ensure they can continue to provide a safe environment for young women and their babies during these unprecedented times.
Our Director of Operations, Lois told me, “I wanted to let you know it is costing us about £4000-£5000 per month at the moment to purchase the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies we need to ensure appropriate hygiene measures for the mothers, babies and nurses at the Aberdeen Women’s Centre.”
“We are making masks but we are now reliant on buying what we can locally. The situation is becoming critical as we will not be able to run all of the shifts necessary at the hospital if we can’t keep up with the appropriate PPE requirements. We use the PPE to deliver our services to our pregnant mothers, the children’s outpatient department and the mothers who have delivered.”
“We are making our own masks for non-clinical staff and patients and are investigating making gowns which can be reused but, due to the nature of the maternity and children’s work, we also need high volume disposable items,” explained Lois.
The Centre is doing all it can to stop the spread of COVID-19 but with limited resources, the staff and the women and babies at the Centre need your help more than ever before.
We need your help to be there for people when they need us most. Please make an urgent donation today.
We appreciate the support you have given us in the past. Any gift you can make today, small or large, will mean we can continue to safely support women and babies in Sierra Leone.
Thank you so much for standing by our cause when we need it most.
Deepest gratitude,
